Currently excavation works are ongoing around the island in order to deepen the shallow shelf and restore the island character of the site (lagoon excavation works). The excavation is over a 600m approximately radius around the site. The outer 500m approximately are being excavated to -1.0mQND, whereas the inner 100m approximately are being excavated to -2.5mQND (to make that area swimmable).
The scope of work for this project includes the excavation of the berthing area, turning basin and the secondary channel to -6.88mQND to allow the vessels to access the island’s berthing area.
The marine studies were undertaken by Marine Consultans Sogreah and the excavation is being undertaken by Redco.
